New Delhi: Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been rested from ODIs and T20Is against South Africa, the squads of which were announced by the BCCI on Thursday. However, both Kohli and Rohit are a part of the Test squad. KL Rahul has been named as ODI captain while Suryakumar Yadav will lead in the shortest format. Suryakumar s currently leading India against Australia in T20I series at home.
Meanwhile, the BCCI stated that both Rohit and Virat requested for a break from the white-ball leg of the tour. Along with Rohit and Virat, pacer Mohammed Shami is also a notable absentee in ODIs and T20Is as he is currently undergoing medical treatment.
Although Shami has been named in the Test squad, his his availability is subject to fitness, the BCCI stated. The 50-over format will also see the return of Yuzvendra Chahal and Sanju Samson. Meanwhile, Sai Sudarshan receives his maiden national team call-up in ODIs while Rajat Patidar also made it to the 50-over squad.
The tour will begin with the three-match T20I affair on December 10 at the Kingsmead Stadium. The second T20I will be played on December 12 at the St George’s Oval. The 20-over format will conclude on December 14 at the Wanderers Stadium.
The 50-over clash will kick off on December 17 at the Wanderers Stadium. The second and final ODI will be played on December 19 and December 21 respectively.
