L’Equipe have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could land Feyenoord striker Feyenoord Santiago Gimenez for €50m (£43.3m) in January.
Gimenez has been one of the most prolific marksmen across Europe in the last 18 months since moving to the Eredivisie and the forward is showing no signs of slowing down.
It seems inevitable that he will make a big move sooner rather than later, with Spurs being mooted as a potential destination for him over the last couple of months.
In fact, The Mirror claimed in October that the Lilywhites are convinced that the 22-year-old is the man to fill Harry Kane’s shoes after scouting him extensively, and are ready to meet Feyenoord’s asking price for the player.
However, Tottenham are not the only Premier League side eyeing Gimenez, with TEAMtalk revealing last week that Mauricio Pochettino has demanded that Chelsea challenge Spurs for the Mexican’s signature in January.
L’Equipe have now also reported on Tottenham’s interest in Gimenez, stating that the North London club could bring in a number nine in January after losing Kane in the summer.
They claim that Spurs are one of several clubs who are ‘following’ the Feyenoord star’s exploits at De Kuip ‘closely’ ahead of the winter transfer window.
The publication adds that the centre forward would only be let go by the Eredivisie club in January if they receive a bid of around €50m (£43.3m).

While £43m is not a huge fee by modern-day standards, the deal would entail some risk as forwards from the Eredivisie have struggled to deliver in the Premier League over recent years.
However, if Spurs do decide to make a move for a number nine in January, Gimenez seems like the most obvious target.
