THE countdown till Christmas is officially on.
And in the lead up to the big day, you may find your pay cheque is feeling a bit stretched out.
With lots of food to buy, presents to get and parties to attend – it may leave you wondering just how you are going to be able to reach January’s pay day.
But many savvy mums have just the trick to making them £20 richer this Christmas.
The trend is currently doing the rounds on social media, and people can’t get enough of it.
Kira Thomas is one savvy money maker who took to Facebook to share exactly how she did it.
As a member of the Family Lowdown Tips & Ideas Facebook group, she posted a picture of her hack.
Kira captioned the picture: “Someone gave me the idea here last year…. I completely forgot about it, until I opened the tree!!
“I’m defo doing this every year.”
The picture shows a bottle of wine with a £20 note stuck to it.
Her post attracted thousands of likes, with hundreds of people rushing to the comments section to share their thoughts.
One wrote: “I am 1000000% doing this! Not only can I have a beverage whilst doing the tree. But also get a pizza/ takeaway.”
Another added: “I forget what I had for breakfast so it would be easy for me.”
And some saw the funny side of it.
One wrote: “I’d be up in the loft with my arm around the tree, the bottle in the other hand swigging and 20 quid c.o.d just eat.”
A second said: “Ha ha I love the will power of people this year I would be back up in the loft a week later.”
Others were confused by the trend, with one person writing: “I don’t understand what’s going on with this?”
A woman who was familiar with the trend, replied: “It’s a little something (a treat) for yourself, like a surprise when you get the decorations down.”
Others were simply looking forward to seeing if they did it for themselves this year.
“I saw this last year and can’t remember if I’ve done it for this year ha ha ha. Will soon find out on Sunday x,” a Christmas fan said.
