GOOGLE has pushed out an urgent update that cyber-experts are urging all users to install.
If you use Google Chrome, you must update your app as soon as possible – or risk a dangerous cyber-attack.
Update your Google Chrome as soon as possible[/caption]The update fixes a bug in Chrome that is being “actively exploited” by cyber-criminals.
It’s a “zero day” vulnerability, which means crooks were taking advantage of the security hole before a fix was available.
In an official warning to users, security experts at Malwarebytes Labs said: “Google has released an update to Chrome which includes seven security fixes including one for a vulnerability which is known to have already been exploited.
“If you’re a Chrome user on Windows, Mac, or Linux, you should update as soon as possible.”
Google also avoids giving too much detail on the specifics of hacks.
“Access to bug details and links may be kept restricted until a majority of users are updated with a fix,” Google explained.
This is to avoid tipping off cyber-criminals before most users are protected.
What we do know is that the Google could lead to a host of problems for users, including computer crashes and even crooks running code on your device.
That could allow them to hijack your machine and potentially spy on you.
Google has stamped the issue with a “High Severity” rating, so it’s important to update your computer as soon as possible.
You can update Google Chrome in as little as three clicks or taps.
If you’re using Windows, just go into Settings, then About Chrome, and you’ll be able to start the download.
And Mac users can go to Google Chrome > About Google Chrome and check for updates there.
If no update is listed, it means you’re using the latest version of Google Chrome and already have the best protections.
Potentially a simpler option is to just paste this link into your browser URL bar, and hit enter: chrome://settings/help
You should also check to make sure that you have automatic Google Chrome updates turned on.
However even if this is the case, you’ll still need to quit the browser and restart it for the update to take effect.
