The Cyprus Greens on Thursday have called on people to attend a peace march on later this week in support of the Palestinian people.
In a statement the party expressed its solidarity with the Palestinian people and its intent to participate in Sunday’s island-wide peace march in Nicosia.
“We express our solidarity with the Palestinian people and condemn in the strongest terms attacks against the civilian population,” the Greens party said in its official announcement.
“At the same time, we demand an immediate end to Israel’s barbaric attack on Palestine,” it added.
The party announcement went on to demand immediate and lasting ceasefire and provision of humanitarian aid to Gaza and an end to the genocide perpetrated by the State of Israel.
The party said it stands for the ending of the occupation and settlement of Palestine by Israel; freedom for the Palestinians; and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state as provided for by relevant UN resolutions.
The greens do not condone any involvement of Cyprus in aggression against the Palestinian people, the party also stated, saying it stood for “non-involvement of Cyprus in any military operation against the Palestinian people and the peoples of the region.”
The party further demanded an end from the government of what it referred to as “an attitude of tolerance” to the genocide committed by Israel against the Palestinian people and called for the state’s “practical solidarity” towards the Palestinians.
The party also condemned the October 7 terrorist attacks by Hamas and demanded the release of all hostages and prisoners and information to be provided on the fate of the missing.
“The people of Palestine and Israel are paying a heavy blood tax at the altar of warmongers and nationalists,” the Greens said.
The peace march for Palestine is to take place on Sunday, December 3, starting at 3pm, in the main streets of Nicosia, departing from Eleftherias Square.
