WHATSAPP users are pleased to see the return of a useful button that mysterious disappeared last year.
It’s not clear why the Meta-owned platform has done a u-turn.
Feature is apparently returning[/caption]The ability to send photos and videos that could only be viewed once was considered a win for privacy.
That’s because it means people can’t store them – not without you knowing anyway.
While it’s continued to exist on iPhone and Android, about a year ago it strangely disappeared from WhatsApp‘s desktop app.
No reason was given but users who enjoyed using the button were left frustrated.
“Why this doesn’t make any sense,” users complained at the time.
But now, all of a sudden, it appears the ability to send view once photos and videos has made a comeback.
The feature’s return was spotted by WABetaInfo.
“The inability to send view once messages from desktop apps garnered significant user complaints last year, highlighting the importance of this feature,” the site said.
It’s not available to everyone just yet but apparently it is being rolled out publicly, so expect it soon if it’s not already there.
If you’re looking for the new button, you will find it among the image editor tool’s caption bar along the bottom.
The move comes after WhatsApp recently added a new emergency account lock-out feature.
Though that’s currently still in testing with beta users.
Beta users get to try out WhatsApp’s newest ideas first.
It’s free to join – but does mean the app will have some bugs.
Before attempting to join the beta, it’s important to point out that places are limited on the programme so you may not be able to take part right away.
To download WhatsApp beta for your smartphone you need to go to Google Play on your Android and search for WhatsApp.
Scroll down the page until you see “Become a Beta Tester”.
Tap the “I’m In” button and then click “Join” to confirm.
Now all you have to do is wait for the update to the beta version of the app.
Joining the WhatsApp beta on iOS for iPhone is more difficult, and has limited capacity.
