Horror moment tennis legend Alicia Molik rushes over to help ball girl who collapsed during TV interview
THIS IS the terrifying moment that tennis legend Alicia Molik rushed to help a ball girl who had collapsed during a live TV interview.
The two-time grand slam doubles champion, 42 had just been unveiled as the new tournament director of the Adelaide International when the scary incident occurred.
The 42-year-old Australian was about to answer a question from a journalist when she heard a loud noise behind her on the court.
Molik turned around to see what was going on when she spotted the ball girl flat on her back and unresponsive.
The former tennis star , who is a two-time grand slam doubles champion, heroically sprang into action and sprinted over to the youngster.
Molik put her first aid knowledge into use as she rolled the girl onto one side and then comforted her as paramedics arrived on the scene.
It has since been announced that the ball girl is now recovering in hospital.
Molik has spent the past decade leading her country’s Billie Jean King Cup side.
But now she says she wants to give back to South Australian tennis in her new job.
A statement from Molik said: “Tennis is part of my everyday DNA and to have the opportunity to be a part of a world-class tennis event in the city where I grew up is really something special.
“This is a chance for me to give back to the community that supported me throughout my on-court career and still to this day.”
Molik debuted at the Australian Open in 1999 and went on to win bronze as a singles player at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
She secured her two doubles successes at the Australian Open in 2005 and at the 2007 French Open alongside Svetlana Kuznetsova and Mara Santangelo respectively.
Molik also won the 2004 Zurich Open, defeating Maria Sharapova in the final, and reached a career-high singles ranking of world No.8.
