THE cost of chicken may now have you spitting feathers as some cuts, especially the breast, have become very expensive.
But you can still get party favourite chicken wings at a relatively low cost.
You can still get party favourite chicken wings at a relatively low cost[/caption]And here’s how to make even more of the cheaper pieces of poultry.
VERIFY VALUE: The price of chicken has jumped by up to 50 per cent since the start of 2021, and it’s now around £7.63 a kilogram when buying a two-pack of breast fillets at Sainsbury’s
By comparison a 1kg pack of chicken wings comes in at £2.19 in the same store.
GUNPOWDER POT: This fiery recipe from Tesco Real Food is great for anyone who likes a bit of spice and costs an estimated £1.20 a serving.
Mix a tablespoon of garlic granules with two tablespoons of ground cumin and ground coriander, plus one teaspoon of chilli powder and half a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in a large bowl.
Add the chicken wings to the bowl and coat the meat, then roast for around 40 minutes at 200C, turning occasionally.
Then serve with lime wedges for squeezing over.
SEASONED SPECIAL: Chicken wings are perfect for cooking in an air fryer.
Try another Tesco Real Food recipe, which works out around £1.05 a serving.
In a bowl toss wings with a teaspoon of sesame oil and rice wine.
Then sprinkle on 30g of plain flour with half a teaspoon of white pepper, and a quarter of a teaspoon of ground ginger, plus salt and pepper.
Spray with oil and cook for ten minutes at 180C in your air fryer.
Mix the partially cooked wings with thinly sliced garlic and spring onion and put back into the air fryer to cook for another 15 minutes until cooked through.
Wings should be in a single layer with space between, so cook in batches if necessary.
