Police are investigating after someone scratched a swastika on school property at Quinnipiac University.
The hate symbol was found Tuesday “scratched into a package pickup locker on the York Hill Campus,” said John Morgan, a spokesperson for the university.
Morgan said this is the second recent incident involving a swastika being found on school property.
“Such hate speech is abhorrent, it can be threatening, and it violates our code of conduct and character at (Quinnipiac University),” Morgan said.
Morgan said school officials will “spare no effort identifying and disciplining” whoever was responsible. He added that public safety personnel with the school are assisting the Hamden Police Department in its investigation.
The incident Tuesday is just the latest in multiple recent instances of antisemitic symbols being found carved or written in Connecticut this month. Officials with the state Department of Transportation and Central Connecticut State University said they are investigating similar incidents at their respective campuses.
CCSU officials are investigating after a racial slur and a swastika were found carved into a bathroom stall earlier this month, which was followed by antisemitic graffiti being found at the DOT’s Newington office.
According to Morgan, security protocols at the school have been “stepped up” out of extra precaution. The university has also made support services available to students and has encouraged them to contact campus counselors at 203-407-4020.
