A WOMAN has revealed the unique way she prepares her potatoes for big occasions like Christmas – and it’s got everyone talking.
The American lady was celebrating Thanksgiving and needed a quick and easy way to wash countless potatoes for the guests who were coming for dinner.
But thanks to her grandma, she knew just the thing – and it saved her hours of hard work.
In a video titled ‘grandma’s best thanksgiving secret’, which was shared on TikTok profile @bengiusd, the woman can be seen stacking the vegetable into none other than her dishwasher.
As a man behind the camera asks her what she’s doing and why the potatoes were anywhere near the dishwasher, she answered: “This is the best way to do it.
“It saves you so much time.”
She continued: “Do you know how many people we have coming? And this is three bags of potatoes.”
The footage then showed her layering them in the top part of the kitchen appliance, before adding more potatoes to the lower section – even adding them into the part usually reserved for cutlery.
Giving more of an explanation, the woman then held up a potato and said: “You know how these are really, really dirty?
“Normally you would clean potatoes in a bowl – but you can’t fit that many. You can only fit five in a bowl.
“And we have three bags of potatoes, so the fastest way to wash is by putting them in your dishwasher.”
She then explained that you simply place them in the trusty appliance, and – crucially – don’t add any tablets or soap.
The woman went on to say that once you make sure there is no detergent in the machine, you simply close it up and start the washing process.
She revealed: “This is the fun bit.
“You see all these different cycles – anti-bacterial, speed cycle, china etc – we just do rinse only.
“And then we’re going to press start for four minutes – literally four minutes.”
The video then cut to when the timer had gone off, and the woman opened the machine to see how they looked.

The result? She exclaimed: “They’re clean, you didn’t have to hand wash them.

However, after they shared the video, it quickly split the internet down the middle.
On the one hand, many said they weren’t keen on the idea and branded it gross.
One wrote: “Still a hard pass.” A second added: “That’s so nasty!”
But others said they were all for it and said the woman – and her grandma – had come up with a game-changing, time-saving hack.
One typed: “Good idea!” As another said: “Genius!”
