Gabby Agbonlahor has defended Matty Cash after his tackle on Rodrigo Bentancur, remarking that the Aston Villa man would have got in touch with the Spurs midfielder to apologise.
Cash was handed a yellow card for flying into Bentancur in the first half even though he had no chance of getting the ball. The Uruguayan and his Tottenham teammates were not pleased with the challenge, with the former Juventus man being forced off with an injury.
Spurs received disastrous news regarding Bentancur on Tuesday as scans showed the midfielder had torn a ligament in his ankle and would be out of action until February (Football.London).
Some Tottenham fans were understandably furious with Cash, who had previously also injured Matt Doherty with a reckless lunge in April of last year.
Some have suggested that the Poland international deserves to be retrospectively banned for endangering Bentancur after the extent of the Spurs star’s injury became clear (talkSPORT).
However, Agbonlahor has now taken to X to play down the incident, stating that bad tackles are a part of the game.
Bad tackles happen in football I’m sure matty cash has already got in contact with bentancur! Let’s wish him a speedy recovery!

Spurs Web Opinion
One can understand why Spurs fans are furious with Cash, given his history. Many are understandably distraught with the Bentancur news and are looking for someone to blame.
The reality is that while it was a reckless challenge by Cash, it was not a red card challenge by the letter of the law. While the Villa right-back might have intended to leave one on Bentancur, I do not think his motive was to injure the 26-year-old.
