The train was booked by a private party for a pilgrimage-related tour to Palitana in Gujarat. It carried roughly 1,000 passengers. Near Pune many passengers experienced dizziness, abdominal pain, vomiting, and loose motions. In response, a team of doctors from the railway hospital, along with doctors from Ruby Hall and other railway officials, were sent to Pune station to provide medical assistance, railways said.
