Rep. Kevin McCarthy went to Mar-a-Lago to comfort a sad and starving Donald Trump after the Jan. 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol, according to former U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney.
“They’re really worried,” McCarthy, the former House speaker, reportedly told Cheney. "Trump’s not eating, so they asked me to come see him.”
Cheney’s revelation about the post-insurrection comfort session appears in her yet-to-be-released book “Oath and Honor,” which hit the airwaves Tuesday after CNN got hold of a copy.
“You went to Mar-a-Lago because Trump’s not eating?” Cheney says she replied.
“Yeah,” McCarthy said. “He’s really depressed.”

Cheney uses this anecdote to accuse McCarthy of lying about his relationship with the former president, whom he visited secretly three weeks after the Jan. 6 attack, reports CNN.
A photo of the two men together spurred Cheney to question McCarthy about the visit, with a demand to know, “What the hell, Kevin?”
Cheney says other Republicans mocked McCarthy for visiting Trump by comparing him to Tom Cruise’s one-liner to Renée Zellweger in Jerry McGuire.
“You.. complete… me,” she says they wrote underneath a photo of the two men.
