A member of the travelling community has shared a surprising fact about the differences between gypsies and ‘country folk’ (non-travellers).
Trewley Precious shared the revelation on her TikTok channel on which she often shares insights into what life is like for gypsies.
Addressing the camera, @trewleyprecious said: “By the way, you guys aren’t aware of this right but this is a thing.
Trewley’s mum said you would not be asked ro l[/caption]“It might not be normal to you, but this is just what it is for us.”
She continued: “In our house, when daddy was alive, if me and mum were in a room and then daddy’s friends walked in, the woman would automatically have to leave the room”.
The traveller explained that this would be the case no matter what the women were doing “even if they’re ironing, or watching a film“.
Trewley’s mum then explained that the women would not be told to leave the room, but the men would make them feel very uncomfortable, so they knew they would have to leave.
Her daughter then butted in, explaining that if she didn’t leave the room when her dad and his friend’s entered, he would shout at her to get out.
TikTok users flooded to the comments to share their thoughts on Trewley’s revelation.
One user said: “I was a barber and we had sunbeds in the salon. Traveling girls would always get up and stand aside for any men that came in. I asked one day why as they don’t have to move for anyone.
“They told me it’s all to do with a clean name. If they’re seen with boys they could get a bad name.”
Another added: “I went to a traveller christening once and all the men sat on one side of the church and the women on the other”.
