An easy win but at times a careless one too
After a tough couple of games, Duke bounced back with a big win over N.C. Central, 93-45.
Reigan Richardson had 22, Taina Mair scored 15 while Camilla Emsbo and Emma Koabel, who got her first career start, had 13 apiece.
Delaney Thomas had 13 boards and Oluchi Okananwa had nine. Okananwa also had five assists.
Duke shot 50 percent for the game and hit 5-16 from deep for 31.3 percent.
On the downside, the Blue Devils had 22 turnovers, which is a lot for any game but in a dominant victory?
That’ll no doubt be discussed when the staff and team breaks down the video. Here’s what coach Kara Lawson said:
“I thought it was a pretty uneven performance for us to be honest, even though the margin was what it was. I thought they did a good job of turning us over, too high turnovers: 22. They had a stretch there in the third quarter where I think we gave up 11 points in the first five minutes of the quarter. I called timeout, I wasn’t happy with our defense and our attention to detail.
“We’re a young team and we’re a team that’s trying to string together quality possessions, enough of them in a row to be able to be good. Right now we’ll play a good possession and a bad possession. To be a good team you’ve got to play like seven or eight possessions in a row really good, and then you have maybe one a bad one. Obviously, you have bad ones, but you’ve got to have way more of the good ones than bad ones to be a good team. We’re not there yet with our organization and with our attention to detail. So, we’re going to keep working.”
Yep, they’re going to be talking about that.
