Sunderland sold Ross Stewart to Southampton in the summer and brought in a host of young faces to strengthen their forward department.
However, none of Sunderland’s new forward signings have registered a goal in the Championship for Tony Mowbray’s side, something which continued on Saturday with a 2-0 loss at Plymouth Argyle.
Collins admitted that Sunderland’s strikers failing to find the back of the net is a frustrating situation for the team and pointed out that the forwards cannot claim that they have not been fed with enough opportunities, using the Plymouth game as an example.
And the Sunderland star believes one of the strikers needs to score a goal so that he can get confidence to get his form back.
When asked about the Black Cats’ forward situation, Collins said on Sunderland’s media: “It is a frustrating one.
“It is not as if these strikers can come off the pitch and say, ‘I am getting no service here; I am not getting any opportunities’.
“The amount of ball we have fed into the six-yard box, not just the 18-yard box this afternoon [Saturday].
“So you just need one of these strikers to get a goal and then maybe you get on those little runs.”
Sunderland are set to face Huddersfield Town on Wednesday and they will be hoping to get back to winning ways against Darren Moore’s side.
