FARMERS have revealed the item they use to keep plants alive during the winter.
The green-thumbed pros explained the benefits of their gardening essential.
In their video, the workers at Appleknowle Farm (@landmarksapperknowlefarm) showed viewers the horticulture hack.
Filming inside their polytunnel, the experts gave their audience a close-up look at their flowerbeds.
Their raised beds could be seen covered in sheep wool, which they used as a mulch.
“[Wool] regulates the temperature of the soil, keeping it warm in the winter and cool in the summer,” they explained.
However, there are a variety of other benefits to using the natural item in your flowerbeds.
“[It] helps to keep the weeds out,” the farmers revealed to their followers.
They added that the material also “locks in moisture” and “adds nutrients to the soil.”
It is also useful for protecting plants from various forms of wildlife.
“Pests do not like the texture of the wool,” the TikTokers explained.
They also pointed out the benefit of using a sustainable source readily available to them.
“The wool is from the sheep on the farm when they have been sheered,” they said.
“It can be recycled into the compost to make a nutrient-packed and fibrous soil,” the horticulture pros added.
