A transgender woman is staging a hunger strike outside a courthouse in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, after the country's highest appeals court ruled in February that Bulgarian law "does not envisage" legal changes to someone's gender. She says the legal impasse prevents all trans people in Bulgaria from leading a normal life.
