Man arrested after death of woman found with ‘significant injuries’ in home
A 43-year-old man has been arrested after a woman died from ‘significant’ injuries at a house in Bristol.
Avon and Somerset Police said a number of children were in the house at the time, and were ‘understandably distressed’ despite not being physically hurt.
Emergency services were called out to a report of a serious assault on Wedmore Close in the Kingswood area of the city at 3.50pm on Monday.
After discovering the injured woman, officers attempted CPR with the assistance of paramedics, but she was pronounced dead at 4.30pm.
The man was subsequently arrested within the house on suspicion of murder.
He will be assessed by health professionals before he is interrogated by the police.
Neighbourhood Policing Chief Inspector Dan Forster said: ‘Tragically, there were a number of children inside the property at the time of the incident and while thankfully they weren’t hurt, there are understandably distressed at what has happened.
‘I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to them and the victim’s wider family during what is undoubtedly a very difficult time.
‘The children are currently being looked after by a family member and specially trained officers will provide them with support.’
He added that the incident was being treated as ‘an isolated one involving people known to each other’.
Residents of the street can expect a cordon to remain around the house for ‘at least a couple of days’ as the investigation continues, Chief Inspector Forster said.
He continued: ‘To provide reassurance to them, and the wider community, neighbourhood officers will be carrying out increased patrols in the area over the coming days.
‘Incidents like this are very rare but when they do happen, we know they cause significant concern so we’d urge anyone with worries or questions to speak to an officer or contact their local neighbourhood policing team.’
The force said it will make a mandatory referral to the the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), to review how its officers responded to the incident.
