Despite a slow start Queen’s Park continued their winning run with a 5-0 win over city rivels Glasgow Women at Alliance Park on Sunday.
After a week off due to cup action, Queen’s Park travelled to Motherwell to face Glasgow Woman at Alliance Park. Riding high on the memory of a thrilling 6-0 win in their previous league encounter, The Spiders were eager for another stellar performance.
Craig Joyce made three changes to the line-up which faced St Johnstone two weeks prior. Robin Gallagher, Darcy Molley, and Megan Quigley made their way into the starting XI, while Nicole Cairney and Leah Daly took their places on the bench. Elise Macara, the newest addition to the squad, featured in the matchday squad for the first time.
Abby Callaghan got the game underway as Queen’s Park retained possession and progressed their way up the park. Their early dominance bore fruit as they won a corner just four minutes into the match. The resulting corner created chaos in the box, with the ball eventually finding Monica Harty on the edge. Harty was brought down before she could get a shot away and a free kick was awarded right on the edge of the box. Emma Craig took the set piece, cleverly striking the ball low and curving it around the Glasgow wall. Unfortunately, her effort just didn’t curl enough as the ball struck the post before going out for a goal kick.
The Spiders continued to put pressure on Glasgow, keeping them within their own half. While shots came off from Quigley and Kane, Ramsay in the Glasgow goal remained largely untroubled.
It didn’t take long for Queen’s Park to break through though as they opened the scoring on the 13th minute. Monica Harty picked up a loose ball in the middle of the park before turning and playing an excellent ball through the Glasgow defence to the feet of Ellie Kane. Kane turned and drove towards goal, holding off the pressure of the Glasgow defender well before calmly slotting the ball past Ramsay guarding the net.
It was all Queen’s Park in terms of attacking play as Glasgow struggled to break free from their goal kicks. The Spiders persistently pressed the home side, unleashing shots from various positions on the field. Frustration mounted as these attempts narrowly missed the target. The match turned into a continuous cycle of a Glasgow goal kick leading to a Queen’s Park attack.
Breaking free from this pattern, Glasgow managed to advance up the park for the first time in the afternoon as Phillipa MacConnell was released down the wing. MacConnell delivered a cross into the box that was comfortably caught by Lauren McGregor in the Spiders’ goal.
On the 25th minute, Queen’s Park believed they had earned the second goal they deserved. Darcy Molley lofted a ball into the middle of the park for Megan Quigley. Finding herself in acres of space, Quigley skilfully chipped the ball over the Glasgow defence, sending Abby Callaghan through one-on-one against Ramsay. Callaghan advanced with the ball, attempting to slot it into the bottom corner, but her effort was unfortunately denied by the Glasgow goalkeeper.
The rest of the half followed the theme of the game so far, with Queen’s Park controlling the game and creating numerous chances to extend their lead. Despite multiple attempts from Callaghan, Quigley, and Kane, unfortunately, none managed to hit the back of the net.

With frustration simmering from not being further ahead at the break, The Spiders came out for the second half hungry, ready to wrap up the game.
Queen’s Park kicked off the second half in style, with Megan Quigley doubling the lead just four minutes in. Robin Gallagher delivered a perfect corner into the box, and Quigley soared above the rest, heading the ball confidently into the net.
In the 63rd minute, Queen’s Park thought they had the third. Darcy Molley initiated a move from the back, playing a long ball towards Ellie Kane. Kane flicked the ball on for Abby Callaghan, who steered it past Ramsay, only to see it rebound off the post. Callaghan had another crack at it, but the tight angle made hitting the target a challenge.
The next 20 minutes saw a quieter period as the ball lingered in the middle of the park. While Queen’s Park continued to push up and create opportunities, they weren’t as frequent as in the earlier stages of the game.
On the 82nd minute, Rachael McConnachie came on for Megan Quigley. Just two minutes later, McConnachie made an instant impact, securing the third goal with her first (and second) touch. Taylor Davis sent a ball towards Sophie McGoldrick, who flicked it wide for Ellie Kane to chase. Kane held the ball up effectively, finding the late run of McConnachie at the edge of the box. McConnachie remained composed and took a great touch forward before rifling the ball into the top corner.
Not even three minutes later, Nicole Cairney picked up the ball in the middle of the park and played it across to Rachael McConnachie. McConnachie slipped a ball through the middle to Sophie McGoldrick, who cleverly manoeuvred around the keeper before slotting it home for her first goal since returning from injury.
Again, not even three minutes later, The Spiders found the net in the 89th minute. A corner from Leah Daly was met by the head of Emma Craig, whose effort was saved by Ramsay. However, Sophie McGoldrick was right there to poke the ball home, giving a more accurate reflection of the game on the score line.
