Report: Sources provide details on Tottenham’s search for new centre-forward
Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to sign an out-and-out striker in January, and will instead look to bolster their options in the wide areas.
Most people would have expected Tottenham to sign a new striker once Harry Kane departed the club for Bayern Munich.
Instead, Ange Postecoglou has relied on Heung-min Son to lead the line, with Richarlison and new signing, Alejo Veliz offering support when needed.
As it stands, Son has delivered exactly what was needed, with the Spurs skipper scoring eight goals so far this season (Transfermarkt).
Still, according to a report from The Athletic last week, Spurs are keen to improve their options in ‘forward areas,’ though it was unclear at that stage whether the club would move for a wide player or a central striker.
Spurs will wait for a striker until the summer
Now, that appears to have been clarified, as sources at Football Insider claim the North London side will add a wide player in January, with more centre-forward options becoming available next summer.
Apparently, Postecoglou is “keen to add more firepower on the flanks,” especially given the injuries to Manor Solomon, Ivan Perisic, and Richarlison.
It is thought the Spurs boss is “happy with his depth at the top of the pitch” for now and that next summer will be a better time to “address” the striker position in his squad.
With this in mind, the Lilywhites are “not likely” to sign an out-and-out striker in the upcoming window, and are expected to “swoop” for a wide player instead.
Ivan Toney is named as the kind of player who could be looked at by Spurs at the end of the season.

No club wants to sell their star striker in the middle of the season, so waiting until the summer could be a smart move. We can essentially sign Perisic’s replacement now, and worry about the centre-forward options in the summer.
