Two men aged 41 and 44 arrested in connection with the murder of Thanasis Kalogeropoulos in Limassol on October 30 were remanded for a further two days on Tuesday.
Before the proceedings began at Limassol District Court, friends and relatives of the victim started shouting insults at the two suspects as they were led into the courtroom, and attempted to follow them in. However, police officers prevented the situation from escalating.
Limassol CID investigators requested the renewal of the suspects’ detention for another two days, aligning it with the expiration of the detention order for the other two suspects, aged 22 and 21.
Tuesday marked the end of the second eight-day detention for the two older suspects.
The case is scheduled to be filed on Thursday, with the case file initially handed over to the Legal Service for instructions on the individuals to be referred for trial before the criminal court.
During the proceedings on Tuesday, the lawyer of the 44-year-old suspect told the presiding judge that the oath has been read to his client and that, for security reasons, he did not wish the events to be read out.
However, the judge rejected the request, stating that there is no reason for it to be fulfilled and noting the presence of a large number of police officers in the courtroom.
He deemed there was no risk and instructed the case examiner to read the detention request.
The case examiner read out the events included in the report, citing evidence and testimonies gathered against the four suspects. Additionally, he mentioned the roles of the four suspects.
Currently, efforts are ongoing to locate the motorcycle used by the two perpetrators during their escape from the scene of the vehicle arson linked to the murder.
The lawyers of the two suspects did not object to the renewal of their detention.
