A DUPE of the viral underseat hand luggage bag is on sale for less than £3 on Temu.
Budget airlines like Ryanair and easyJet only allow passengers to carry one personal item on board for free.
Because many airlines charge customers for a carry-on suitcase, holidaymakers have been attempting to make the most of their free hand luggage allowance.
This time last year, social media platforms like TikTok were awash with users raving about the Narwey Duffel Bag.
The viral bag can easily be placed under airline seats, meaning there is no need to pay for extra baggage.
Holidaymakers were quick to describe the bag as a “lifesaver” and a “game-changer” because of the space inside the bag.
TikTok users posted videos of themselves cramming a week’s worth of clothing, toiletries, and other travel essentials into the small gym bag.
Earlier this year, I tested out the bag on a five-day trip to Bratislava in Slovakia and Vienna in Austria.
I was impressed with the bag’s almost unbelievably spacious interior – although the handles and straps left a lot to be desired.
Back in February, I purchased the bag for £15.99 on Amazon.
While the price of the bag has dropped slightly to £13.59 in Amazon’s Black Friday Sale, there’s potentially a newer, cheaper, contender in town.
Online retailer Temu has launched its own version of the bag, and it’s on sale for just £2.68, which is an 83 per cent discount on its original price.
Unlike the Narwey Duffel Bag, the Temu version doesn’t have a catchy name for users to type into the search bar.
Instead, the bag is referred to as the “1pc Portable Travel Storage Bag, Foldable Carry-on Luggage, Travel Bag Weekender Overnight Bag, Sports Gym Tote Bag,” – which is a bit of a mouthful.
There aren’t many details about the bag on the website either.
One photo lists its dimensions as 32cm by 16cm by 48cm, which would make it too big to fit under a plane seat, while other photos show the bag sitting perfectly on top of a cabin suitcase.
Even if this bag is slightly too large for the free hand luggage requirements, there are plenty of other alternatives on the Temu website, including a smaller version, which does meet Ryanair hand luggage rules for £1.78.
The bags have received a 4.6/5 star rating from more than 243 reviews on the Temu website.
One person wrote: “It’s lightweight, spacious and foldable. It will be perfect for my upcoming three-day holiday.”
While another added: “It’s a brilliant wee bag, it fits so much.”
Despite customers being told that they can “shop like a billionaire” on the ultra-budget website, Temu isn’t without its faults.
Earlier this year, Sun Features Writer Miranda Knox investigated the ultra-budget retailer.
She wrote: “The site has been dogged by negative reviews, claims of undelivered parcels, poor customer service and, most concerning of all, an ‘extremely high risk’ of forced labour.”
Temu, the US offshoot of Chinese e-commerce giant PDD, can offer unbeatable prices because of its access to the PDD supply chain and factory network.
However, a US congressional committee report has warned that Temu’s suppliers could be using forced labour in China’s Xinjiang province.
It is there that the Chinese government has been accused of genocide, targeting the Muslim Uyghur people.
There are other concerns surrounding Temu too, including damning reviews written by its customers.
Sun journalist Miranda Knox wrote: “On TrustPilot, the app scores a fairly reasonable 3.5 stars out of five — but 31 per cent of users give it just one.”
For those Brits who feel uneasy about purchasing a bargain travel bag on Temu, there are plenty of other alternatives on the market.
One of those is the Kipsta 20L sports bag, which can be purchased on the Decathlon website for £6.99.
On its website, it is described as: “a great choice for a compact gym bag or lightweight cabin bag”.
It also has an overall rating of 4.7/5, with more than 860 people rating it four or five stars.
