PASSENGERS were left baffled when they got offered “imported dog food” on a menu of a China Eastern Airlines flight.
A photo taken by the traveller shows the menu for business class passengers which includes beef, soup dishes and “dog food”.
Facebook post showed “imported dog food” on business class menu[/caption] The menu was from a flight of China Eastern Airline and was most likely mistranslated[/caption]Airplane food doesn’t have the best reputation for its taste, but business class is usually expected to serve appetising dishes.
But when dog food appeared on the menu alongside “smoked pepper beef” and seafood, it left the passengers perplexed.
The menu was posted on Facebook by Conrad Ru who flew business class with China Eastern Airlines.
He shared the image, asking: “What exactly is it?”
It quickly became viral and was shared on Reddit where some people pointed out it probably was “a translation that’s gone wrong”.
Some online users found the mistake funny and jokingly added their own speculations of what it could mean.
Edward Poon asked if it meant the airline was pet-friendly, while another said it was because “they treat you as a dog, not human”.
One person emphasised the word “imported”, saying: ” Apparently, economy class passengers only get domestic dog food.”
Someone saw the opportunity to make a pun, commenting: “Dog food can be canned and is safe to eat.
“If imported, it can have high safety standards.
“Standards that are through the woof.”
One user left a tongue-in-cheek comment, saying: “If it’s business class I expect my imported dog food to be 96% air dried organic beef.”
But other commenters pointed out the rest of the dishes on the menu that seemed unappealing to them.
“Disgusting, I am more concerned that they are still serving Shark Fin soup in this day and age,” said one Reddit user.
“The vanilla shrimp is what grosses me out more,” added another.
But one fan came to China Eastern’s defence, recalling his personal experience flying with the airline.
“I love this airline.
“I only flew it once but it once but it was a long flight and i changed planes twice (same airline) and the flight crew were so awesome!!
“Incredibly friendly and helpful.
“Maybe because i was the only non Chinese person on the plane?
“The food was really yummy too.
“It’s sad to see them making such mistakes when they have plenty of experts in China who could proofread things for them.”
It remains unclear what the mistranslated dish on the menu was referring to.
But the Sun has contacted China Eastern Airlines for clarification.
