Contra Costa Health issued a public health advisory early Sunday morning due to a fire at Marathon’s Martinez Renewable Fuels refinery.
On social media, the health department said a hazardous materials team was “responding to reports of a fire” at the refinery at 1:34 a.m. and that an advisory had been issued for Martinez, Pacheco, Concord and Clyde.
The health department said the fire may be visible from the surrounding communities. Within an hour, the advisory had been lifted, and the health department later said the fire was “under control”.
The incident was classified by Contra Costa Health as a Level 1 Alert, meaning it was an event “lasting longer than 20 minutes or with odors.”
An all-clear for the surrounding communities has been issued on the CCH web page.
