As Duke looks for win number seven

Duke goes on the road Saturday to play Virginia.
The Cavaliers are 2-8 overall and just 1-5 in the ACC, with the win being over UNC.
However, several losses have been very close: UVA lost to James Madison 36-35, to NC State 27-24, to Miami 29-26 in overtime and to Louisville 31-24.
They’ve been competitive, in other words.
So has Duke. One of the most remarkable things about this season is that Duke has been without not just starting quarterback Riley Leonard but also his backup Henry Belin.
Going with a true freshman quarterback is rarely a recipe for success and Duke’s has been mixed with Grayson Loftin. But the Blue Devils have been a tough out for just about everyone. Notre Dame came down to the final seconds. Duke led Florida State into the fourth quarter before yielding and took UNC to double OT.
None of that guarantees a win over anyone obviously, but what we’ve learned in the Mike Elko era is that Duke is going to compete.
And they’ll certainly do that Saturday.
