VERNON Kay has revealed his horror injuries after his ultramarathon – as a Children In Need reveal left him “speechless” on stage.
Radio 2 presenter Vernon told of the damage his body suffered while running 116 miles as part of the BBC‘s charity appeal.
Vernon Kay was left open-mouthed and speechless by the latest donations tally[/caption]But he was happily stunned when told live on-air by host Alex Scott just how much in donations his efforts have raised.
He appeared early on in tonight’s BBC One Children In Need coverage, just hours after completing his gruelling challenge.
Newly-suited Kay, 49, was asked by Alex whether he needed a chiropodist appointment, a foot massage and any other treatment.
He replied: “I need everything doing – kneecaps, ankles, thighs, quads, the lot.
“It’s all gone, it’s all disappeared.”
Alex then provided the latest update on how much money his ultramarathon has inspired in donations – £5,067,847.
Kay gasped open-mouthed in shock and struggled to find words when asked how he was feeling about it.
Alex told viewers: “He’s speechless, look.
“The challenge may have ended, but the amazing generosity from Radio 2 listeners continues.”
Vernon eventually said himself: “I’m speechless, speechless.
“Thank you, everyone that donated – thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.”
He had earlier admitted his body was “battered” after finishing the ultra-marathon, saying: “I’m on so many painkillers I’d keel over if I had a pint.”
About 400 people including his parents were there to see his mission finally end as he arrived at his favourite football club Bolton Wanderers‘ stadium.
But he had to settle for only a phone call from his wife Tess Daly, who’s in Blackpool to present tomorrow’s Strictly Come Dancing.
People can still donate to Vernon’s challenge at bbc.co.uk/vernon.
