Over two dozens senators are supporting pro-life Senator Tommy Tuberville and criticizing Joe Biden and his administration for its policy of forcing Americans to fund military abortion travel.

Tuberville’s (R-Ala.) nine-month battle to hold military nominees as a way of holding Biden responsible for breaking the law and making Americans fund abortion travel has reached a fever pitch. And with a handful of pro-life Republicans abdoning him, it’s important that other senators stand up for his pro-life holds and speak out against the pro-abortion policy.

And they’ve done just that according to a CNA report:

This week, a group of 27 senators published a letter to Austin writing that, with the issuance of the policy, Austin has “broken your promise to the American people not to politicize the military, and your actions have harmed and threaten to further harm institutional norms within our democracy.”

Congress “never authorized the department to expend funds to facilitate abortions,” the letter stated, “and, until the policy was issued, the military never facilitated abortions except in cases of rape, incest, or where the life of the mother would be endangered if the unborn child were carried to term.”

“Now taxpayers — many of whom have deeply-held religious and moral objections to abortions — are on the hook to facilitate the very abortions they fundamentally oppose,” the senators wrote.

The letter criticized Austin for his allegation that the repeal of Roe v. Wade created “readiness, recruiting, and retention implications for the force.”

“By your own officials’ admissions, however, the department has no data to support that claim, and few service members or dependents have utilized the policy,” they wrote.

The undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness, they wrote, has confirmed that the Department of Defense “does not have any data on women being deterred from joining the military for fear of being stationed at an installation or base in a state or nation that has restrictive abortion laws.”

“A recent letter from the ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee revealed that only 12 women have taken advantage of the policy since its inception,” which, they argued, “undercuts [Austin’s] argument that Dobbs has significant recruiting and retention implications.”

“Your decision to issue the policy politicized the military and placed the wants of a few over the needs of the entire nation,” the senators wrote. “Do the right thing. Rescind the policy now.”

Their letter comes after 90 pro-life leaders in signed an open letter in support of Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s, R-AL, ongoing campaign to end abortion in the military.

“Conservatives are proud to stand behind Sen. Tommy Tuberville in his fight to protect the lives of the unborn,” the letter began. “For months, Sen. Tuberville has stood fearlessly and alone in protest of an illegal policy implemented by the Department of Defense (DOD) to pay for service member travel in order to obtain an abortion.”

“He has done so by objecting to the unanimous consent passage of military promotions, using the leverage granted to every single Senator to slow down these promotions in protest of the DOD’s illegal policy,” the letter continued:

Sen. Tuberville’s stand is unique. When the DOD signaled they would implement this abortion travel policy, he warned them not to do it. DOD Secretary Lloyd Austin did it anyway. Yet instead of simply demanding a vote on legislation he knows will fail, Sen. Tuberville chose to maximize his leverage with a tactic that actually withholds something the White House wants.

The letter also pointed out that despite Tuberville’s holds on mass promotions, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-NY, still has the power to bring each individual promotion to “the floor and vote on [it] at any time.” Schumer has for months refused to do so – with a few exceptions.

Meanwhile, Senate Democrats are proving once again that promoting abortion is more important than supporting our military.

Instead of approving hundreds of military nominees all at once by having Joe Biden drop his illegal abortion funding policy or approving the nominees one at a time, they’re trying to change the rules. They want to make it so Senator Tommy Tuberville can’t hold them accountable for a policy that violates federal law and forces Americans to fund abortion travel for members of the military.

Here’s more:

On Tuesday, the Senate Rules Committee voted along party-lines to advance a resolution that would allow Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to advance the military promotions and nominations that Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) has placed holds on due to the Pentagon’s illegal abortion policy. Under the policy, which violates 10 U.S.C. 1093, female servicemembers and their dependents can receive paid time off for abortions, and travel expenses are covered if the abortion takes place in another state. There is no gestational limit for such abortions. We’ve been hearing about such a resolution for weeks, but it finally happened on Tuesday afternoon, as Senate Chairman of the Armed Services Committee Jack Reed (D-RI) was all too happy to share.

The “temporary” rule change still has to get through the full Senate, where Republicans can stop it with a filibuster. That will prove to be difficult for Senate Democrats.

Tuberville still has significant support from other Republicans, not just in the Senate, but in the House as well. Grassroots leaders and veterans also support Tuberville with sticking to the rule of law and right to life with his holds, as do Alabama voters.

Schumer has expressed hope that Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) will do something about the holds, although that doesn’t look to be happening, at least not for the timing being.

It’s worth reminding that Schumer also has the ability to call for individual votes on the nominees, which Tuberville is not only not opposed to, but has reminder the majority leader he has had this power to do all along. Schumer has, in fact, caved twice already, as he did in September and just a few weeks ago.

Tuberville is not backing down from standing for life.

“I don’t believe that the White House and the Pentagon can just write a memo and change the law and make an unlawful abortion policy,” Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., told Newsmax on Wednesday.

“I like Senator McConnell, but I don’t work for him,” Tuberville said. “I work for the people of Alabama and the taxpayers and citizens of this country.”

Here’s more:

Tuberville continued that the Biden administration can’t change the law at whim, which is why he is retaliating, but some even in his own party are fighting him.

“I’m having to fight the Democrats and now having to fight some of my own side, [my] own party. We gotta figure out whether we’re pro-life or not. I think that’s where we need to … have a discussion,” Tuberville stated.

“We’ve gotta stand up. When things get tough, that’s when you gotta get tougher,” Tuberville said. “[The Biden administration] hadn’t been told ‘no’ in three years. I’ve told them ‘no’ now for nine months … on these holds, and I’m going to stick with it, I’m not changing my mind.”

Instead of ending the abortion funding to allow the 300+ military nominees to be approved by one vote (they can be approved individually but Democrats would rather trash Tuberville than hold multiple votes), Democrats want to change the rules. And Tuberville says Biden would rather trash the Senate than back off his illegal pro-abortion policy.
