Former Trump "fixer" Michael Cohen questioned former President Donald Trump's legal strategy this week and said it could lead to one of his two eldest sons being hit with criminal charges.
In an interview with Salon's Igor Derysh, Cohen said it was a big mistake for Trump and his lawyers to send Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump back out to serve as defense witnesses in New York Attorney General Letitia James' civil fraud trial against the Trump Organization.
"He has to know that this is a stupid strategy," said Cohen, who speculated that Trump was essentially using his own children as human shields to protect himself from further damage.
"As a parent, you would think that his goal would be to protect his children," he said. "Instead, what he is doing is he is putting them in the line of fire. They're all perjury traps. None of them, including Ivanka, who has no idea what's going on anywhere."
Former United States Attorney Barb McQuade also questioned the decision to throw Donald Trump Jr. and Eric back onto the witness stand, particularly since they spent their previous testimony trying to shift blame onto the Trump Organization's accountants for gross overvaluations of Trump properties.
“I think it's going to be very difficult for Donald Trump Jr. to really have a lot of credibility here," she explained.
