OLLY Murs broke down in tears on last night’s The Voice after recalling a close friend’s tragic suicide.
The pop star, 39, was overwhelmed after listening to show hopeful Sheridan Coldstream’s moving audition.
Sheridan, 59, performed his own version of Billie Eilish‘s haunting Listen Before I Go, and one line in particular struck a chord with Olly.
He explained: “I hadn’t heard that song before so when the line you said ‘tell your friends that I love them’ it just hit me and I got quite emotional actually. I just went with my feeling in my heart.
“It’s really mad on this show how we just meet strangers as coaches. Just hearing you speak, I didn’t know that song… that song was about suicide.”
The coach then became visibly emotional and was comforted by co-star Anne-Marie, before bringing up past trauma.
He said: “I lost a good friend to suicide a few years back…
“It is mad actually that you’ve walked into my life. Although I’m supposed to be coaching you, I think you will be coaching me.”
Olly made his way to Sheridan and gave him a hug, before admitting he still hasn’t dealt with his loss.
He said: “It hit me. I think there’s a lot of stuff I haven’t dealt with that I need to talk about. Sheridan walked into my life and maybe I need that.”
Though Olly didn’t mention the name of his friend, fans believe he was speaking about Caroline Flack.
The TV star, who presented alongside Olly on the X Factor, took her own life inside her London flat in 2020. She was just 40.
During his show at London’s O2 Arena in April this year, Olly sobbed on stage as he paid tribute to his late friend.
He performed a rendition of Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline and told the crowd he had ‘regrets’ about not being there for Caroline.
He said: “Like I said earlier, it’s been an incredible four or five years and I know it’s been a really tough, crazy four or five years for every single one of you in this room and it’s going to be hard for me to do this but, in 2020, I lost a very good friend of mine, someone that I love very, very much.
“Her name is Caroline Flack and it is one of the toughest things that has happened in my life and it is really sad to see someone so amazing leave us but she has never left and she is always in my heart.”
