Football Insider have claimed that Fabio Paratici was extremely keen on bringing Anthony Gordon to Tottenham during his time as the North London club’s managing director of football.
Gordon joined Newcastle United in a deal worth £45m back in January of this year and the fee raised some eyebrows at the time as despite showing glimpses of promise at Everton, the winger had never really managed to capture the imagination at Goodison Park.
However, he has proven to be an inspired signing for the Magpies, having become a fixture in Eddie Howe’s forward line.
The 22-year-old has six goal contributions (four goals and two assists) in 10 Premier League games this season (Transfermarkt) and a call-up to the England squad does not look too far away for the youngster.
According to Football Insider, Paratici was ‘obsessed’ with the idea of bringing Gordon to Spurs during his tenure at the Lilywhites.
The publication reveals that they have heard from ‘a well-placed source’ that the Italian was ‘desperate’ for Tottenham to sign the former Everton man before his switch to St James’ Park.
The outlet does not explain why Spurs chose against making a move for Gordon in January.
Spurs Web Opinion
Paratici might have been a fan of Gordon but it is possible that Conte might not have been too keen on the signing. Djed Spence was evidently a Paratici signing and Conte publicly announced that the right-back was a ‘club signing’ in an effort to distance himself from the transfer.
