TONIGHT, King Charles, Queen Camilla and other members of the royal family attend the Royal British Legion’s annual Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
The Remembrance event will air on BBC One at 9pm, but earlier tonight, we saw the Royals arrive in style.
Prince William and Kate Middleton arrived together, with Kate leading the way into the venue.
The mum-of-three looked as elegant as always, in a long-sleeved beautiful black dress.
The brunette beauty wore her hair curled to perfection and completed her look with a stunning pearl necklace, and of course, donned a red poppy.
Here, Fabulous spoke to body language expert Judi James, to get her verdict on the couple’s entrance.
Judi explained: “There’s a rather sweetly bashful look to William and Kate’s body language here, with the intense puckering around his mouth forming a suppressed and rather boyish smile, while Kate is almost hiding behind her newly-layered hair.
“With her hands folded in front of her torso the message seems to be that the couple intend to avoid upstaging the King and Queen at this event with this slightly more self-effacing body language.
“Kate appears to be making a very important and powerful homage to the late Queen though.
“Her dress is deceptively simple but apparently chosen to make a feature of the three-strand pearl necklace she is wearing.
“The pearls don’t look like Kate’s usual personal style but they are the ones worn by the late Queen as a signature statement piece that is immediately associated with her.
“Against the plain black fabric the effect is dramatic and is a deliberate and very poignant reminder of her much-loved mother-in-law on a day when she will be badly missed.”
We then saw the couple enjoy the concert, alongside King Charles, Queen Camilla, and Princess Anne, amongst others.
Judi added: “The combination of Kate and the late Queen’s pearls make a very powerful message of continuity and combined forces here as she stands to the front of the royal party with her head held up and a very solemn facial expression while William clasps his hands in front of his torso and tilts his head in an expression of silent sympathy and regret.
“Kate’s pose and the symbolic pearls here make her look like the late Queen’s appointed her as future Queen and female head of the Firm.”
Not only did the pair arrive in style, as expected, but the couple also updated their social media feeds for the most solemn occasion on the British calendar.
The Prince and Princess of Wales updated their profiles by uploading a new profile photo – a picture of them attending the 2019 Festival of Remembrance, an event held annually at the Royal Albert Hall to commemorate all those who lost their lives.
For the occasion, the couple wore all-black with red poppy pins.
The poppy, used since 1921 for commemorating war heroes – is largely associated among the UK and Commonwealth countries with Remembrance Day, as a symbol of sacrifice.
Not only do many members of the public don a poppy for the occasion but it becomes a staple of the royal wardrobe each November.
The Prince and Princess of Wales have also posted a new cover photo on X showing the Field of Remembrance, with poppies on crosses.
They used the same cover photo for Remembrance Day last year, and this year swapped it in for a photo of the Earthshot Prize finalists.
Tonight’s event, hosted by Clare Balding, will see music artists including British soul legend Mica Paris, popstar Calum Scott, Chelsea Pensioner Colin Thackery, Festival favourite Alfie Boe, singer songwriter Katie Melua, chart-topping DJ-duo Sigma featuring Morgan and 14 year old opera singing sensation Malaki, take to the stage.
Not only this, but the Band of HM Royal Marines and The Band of The Royal Air Force Regiment will create awe inspiring displays of military music.
This year’s event will commemorate the significant anniversaries of two crucial historical battles.
It is 80 years since The Battle of the Atlantic, the longest military campaign of World War II and the seventieth anniversary of the Korean War in which many national servicemen fought and died, with veterans from both wars present in the Hall.
In tribute to the 75th anniversary of the HMT Empire Windrush’s arrival, the Festival will honour the extraordinary contributions of the Windrush generation to the military.
Past and present military personnel will come together to be honoured for their service.
As the petals fall in the Royal Albert Hall, the Festival will pay tribute to all victims of war and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
