Hartford police are warning residents of a recent uptick in complaints of a phone scam involving suspects who purport to be officers and demand money.
Lt. Aaron Boisvert, of the Hartford Police Department, said in a statement Friday that the calls usually involve suspects who make claims that police have a warrant out for someone’s arrest or that they missed a court appearance. The scammers demand money in “various forms of payment” to settle the false claims.
“The Hartford Police Department would like to remind the public that Hartford Police personnel will never call people and demand money,” Boisvert said.
“If you receive a call from anyone claiming to be a police officer and demanding money, you are urged to report the matter to police.”
