A correction officer has been charged with assault in connection with a use of force investigation at a prison in Newtown.
Anthony Marlak turned himself in at Troop A in Southbury Tuesday on one count of third-degree assault, according to Connecticut State Police.
The Western District Major Crimes Squad held a warrant for his arrest in connection with an investigation into a use of force incident reported at Garner Correctional Institution in Newtown, state police said.
Marlak posted a $20,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in Danbury Superior Court on Nov. 21.
According to the state Department of Correction, Marlak has been on paid administrative leave since Sept. 27. He has been a correction officer since July 2008.
“Mr. Marlak is the subject of an ongoing DOC investigation into the matter, and as such, no additional information can be released at this time,” the DOC said in a statement.
