Well this game just got interesting.
There’s a good argument to be made that Saturday’s clash with Luton Town is ‘win or bust’ for Erik ten Hag, who’s side have lost nine of their opening 17 matches in all competitions.
The last time that happened was in 1973-74 when they were relegated from the top division. It’s unlikely they’ll suffer the same fate, but Ten Hag and his troops desperately need a comprehensive win.

Promoted Luton Town, meanwhile, arrive having secured an impressive point against Liverpool – and were just minutes away from an historic victory.
Rob Edwards’ side are just outside of the relegation zone on goal difference and might just fancy their chances of piling the pressure on Ten Hag and Co.

The result didn’t tell the full story on midweek. It was Manchester United’s best Champions League display this year, and up there with their best performances of the campaign.
Striker Rasmus Hojlund was in the right place at the right time for his brace, Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford were a constant threat down the channels and Scott McTominay provided energy in the middle of the park.
So… not all doom and gloom. A repeat performance would likely see them score 2+ goals at Old Trafford, while the visitors (who have scored in their last three on the road) are capable of snatching one against this charitable defence.
Alejandro Garnacho has been particularly impressive in recent weeks. The Argentine, 19, has registered 46 touches in the opposition penalty area in 372 minutes of Premier League action – only Marcus Rashford has more but in over double the game time.
He’s had 14 attempts on goal in three full starts, and he’s averaging a shot every 26.6 minutes. Only West Ham, Bournemouth and Sheffield United have conceded more than Luton’s 183 attempts on their goal this season.
Odds-on favourites vs underdogs usually results in the latter receiving the most cautions – but that’s unlikely this weekend.
Luton Town have been awarded the fewest yellow cards of any side in the Premier League, while only Sheffield United have won fewer fouls than Manchester United. Referee Graham Scott is averaging just 2.2 cards a game in his last seven top-flight assignments.
