A British man who disappeared two days into his holiday in Jamaica has been found dead in a wooded area.

Londoner Robert Dyer, 60, went missing after setting off on a walk in Ballards Valley, near to St Elizabeth in south-west Jamaica, on Sunday.

Robert, who was a retired fitness instructor from Lewisham in south-east London, was found dead at 9.15am local time yesterday.

His body was found during a search-and-rescue operation by Jamaica Constabulary Force.

The force said on social media that ‘no foul play’ is suspected to have been linked to his death.

Robert had contacted his brother on Sunday after becoming lost on a walk he was doing.

He then called his wife, Anne, on Monday and he was ‘severely dehydrated’. His family have said he sounded ‘disorientated’ on that call.

Local media have reported how more than 250 people were involved in the extensive search for Mr Dyer on Tuesday.

The Jamaica Defence Force and the fire brigade were also involved.

Then on Wednesday night, volunteers found Mr Dyer’s trekking stick. His body was found on Thursday morning.

A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: ‘We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Jamaica and are in contact with the local authorities.’

Previously Robert’s son Lewis spoke to the Sun sharing the family’s fear for Robert’s safety.

Speaking of the call Robert made to his wife the day after he vanished, Lewis said: ‘The next day we were all able to contact him.

‘He was lying in a ditch somewhere with no water, couldn’t speak properly and had become immobile.’

The family were then unable to get through to him after the last call he made to Anne.
