TikToker JD Slye (@jd_slye) created a video about his cheap warming trick.

“This works. I did all my windows for $20. It is much warmer in my house now,” he captioned the clip.

You only need three things: Bubble wrap, soapy water, and scissors.

Currently, one package of bubble wrap retails for $15 via Amazon.

“All of you out there freezing your ass off tonight, go out and get some bubble wrap,” JD said at the beginning of his video.

He said to spray soapy water on the windows, cut the bubble wrap to fit, and then place it on the glass.

“It will stick just like that and insulate the windows a lot,” he said.

Another benefit of using bubble wrap is that it “still lets the light through,” JD noted.

Of course, it keeps the chilly drafts away too.

“I can’t feel any cold on this window at all,” JD said. “The cold is gone.”

The  DIYer interacted with people in the comments section, many of whom said the hack worked well.

“From doing further research they say the bubbles against the window work better than the flat side to the window,” he added.

People were pleased with the trick.

“I did this and used a temperature gun to test. It helps about 7 to 8 degrees. Worth it in my opinion,” one person wrote.

“I did this and it works so well,” a second shared.

“I did my 1970s house trailer windows in my bedroom & bathroom and it helped a lot,” a third noted.

Don’t just take JD’s word for it: Build It Solar said insulating windows with bubble wrap is an effective way to warm your home, too.

Heat losses with bubble wrap for one square foot of window are 88K BTU (British Thermal Unit) per season.

Whereas heat losses without bubble wrap for one square foot of window are 168K BTU per season.
