To no one’s surprise, Taylor Swift has the number-one album in the country with “1989 (Taylor’s Version).” It had the biggest launch of any of her re-recorded “Taylor’s Version” albums. Read all about this week’s Billboard 200 albums chart here at Billboard.com.
The new edition of “1989” debuted with 1.653 million equivalent album units based on its combined record sales, individual track sales and online streaming performance. That’s the most units for any album since 2015, when Adele‘s “25” got started with an extraordinary 3.482 million. Most of Swift’s total came from traditional sales 1.359 million, which marks the biggest sales week of Swift’s career and already makes “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” the bestselling album of the year. Swift has now had six albums sell more than a million copies in a single week, which is more than any other artist.
Other Swift achievements with this album: the biggest streaming week for any of her “Taylor’s Version” albums, the biggest vinyl week for any album in the modern era, and her 13th overall chart-topper, which ties her with Drake for the third most ever behind The Beatles (19) and Jay-Z (14).
After “1989,” the K-pop band Seventeen debuted at number-two with “Seventeenth Heaven: 11th Mini Album,” which achieved 100,000 units, mostly from CD sales. Drake‘s “For All the Dogs” is at number-three. Bad Bunny‘s “Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana” holds steady at number-four. And Morgan Wallen‘s “One Thing at a Time” holds onto number-five.
In our weekly predictions contest, the vast majority of users correctly predicted that “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” would top the chart and that it would achieve 300,000 or more album units (and how!). “Seventeenth Heaven” wasn’t in our predictions center this week, and only one user correctly picked “None of These” for the number-two slot. Most of our users were right, though, that “For All the Dogs” would be number-three. Only two people anticipated “Nadie Sabe” at number-four. But more than a dozen anticipated “One Thing at a Time” in fifth place. Despite a few tough calls, one of our users managed to achieve a perfect score betting on this week’s results. How did you do?
