With the 2023-24 men’s college basketball season set to begin, the 22nd-ranked USC Trojans will be without one of their top incoming talents for the foreseeable future.
Bronny James — the son of LeBron James — committed to Andy Enfield’s squad back in May, which capped off one of the more unique recruitments we’ve seen any program navigate. Bronny, who was the 28th-ranked player in his class by 247 Sports, largely left coaches in the dark before narrowing his list down to USC, Memphis and Ohio State.
Bronny’s commitment to USC was thought to fit right into LeBron’s stated dream of sharing an NBA court with his son. But those plans understandably seemed insignificant when Bronny suffered cardiac arrest in July. Bronny was discharged from the hospital three days after the incident, and doctors diagnosed the 18-year-old with a congenital heart defect.
Given the massive health scare, Bronny’s basketball future wasn’t the primary concern, but his improvement since the incident has led to questions about his potential return.
Here’s what we know so far.
