The father of the man accused of carrying out a mass shooting at a Chicago Fourth of July parade in 2022 pleaded guilty on Monday to seven counts of misdemeanor reckless conduct, The New York Times reported.
The charges against Robert Crimo Jr. were downgraded from felonies after he was accused of helping his son, Robert Crimo III, obtain a license to own firearms before the shooting that killed seven people.
Crimo Jr. will serve 60 days in jail and two years of probation as part of the deal. He will also be required to surrender his Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card and any firearms or ammo in his possession.

Crimo Jr. sponsored his son’s application in 2019 when his son was 19 -- which made him too young to apply for his own gun permit. Crimo Jr. also went ahead with the action despite his son's previous threats to carry out acts of violence.
On July 4, 2022, his son climbed onto the roof of a building in downtown Highland Park, Ill., and opened fire on parade attendees.
