Alan Shearer has slammed England international forward Marcus Rashford for having a birthday party at a nightclub a few hours after Manchester United’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City last Sunday (October 29).
The Red Devils were woeful against their neighbours, and the Englishman failed to impress.
However, the result did not dissuade Rashford from going ahead with his planned outing for the night as he went ahead to celebrate his 26th birthday.
Shearer and Gary Lineker spoke about the incident on the Rest is Football podcast, and the former Newcastle United striker was not impressed with the actions of the Man United star.
“Yeah. Absolutely,” Shearer replied when asked if he thinks Rashford is wrong and out of order.
“I don’t care if it’s your birthday on a Saturday night.
“If you’re being dumped 3-0 after a terrible performance. You got to read the room.
“You can’t go into town, into a night club, on a night you’ve just been dumped 3-0 off your neighbours.
“You can’t do it. It’s just a no-no. So, yeah, it was daft and it was stupid for Rashford to do that whether it’s your birthday or not. You can’t go out after being battered.
“Dinner is different, but going into the nightclub, you can’t do that.”
Rashford has since apologised to manager Erik ten Hag who dubbed the decision ‘unacceptable’, and he was not named in the Premier League matchday squad on Saturday against Fulham due to a knock.
Ten Hag dropped Rashford from the starting XI against Wolverhampton Wanderers last term owing to late timekeeping, and many suggested the Dutchman left the striker out of the squad that travelled to Craven Cottage as a disciplinary measure.
However, it appears that is not the case and whether Rashford will be punished for his decision to go clubbing after the Manchester derby remains to be seen.
The Red Devils left it late to secure a 1-0 win over Fulham in the absence of the struggling England international forward.
Rashford has gone ten games without a goal in all competitions for Man Utd and has scored just once and assisted another in ten league games so far this term.
He has not had a hand in a goal across the last five games he has featured in and ought to know better than to go clubbing after such a heavy loss.
The Old Trafford club return to action on Wednesday with a trip to Denmark to face FC Copenhagen in the Champions League before returning to Premier League action against Luton Town on Saturday before the international break, and Rashford will hope to return and end his goal drought.
