Sri Lankan Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe Sacks National Cricket Board (SLC) Amid Poor Show In ODI World Cup 2023
New Delhi: Sri Lanka sports minister Roshan Ranasinghe has sacked Sri Lanka cricket board after their poor show in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 in India. Sri Lanka is out of the tournament and currently on number seven of the points table.
In the recent outing against India the Kusal Mendis-led side scored their lowest total of the World Cup and now on October 6 they will lock horns against Bangladesh and the match will be played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in the national capital, New Delhi.
“An interim committee led by Arjuna Ranatunga has been appointed by Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe, to address the ongoing challenges within Sri Lanka Cricket,” reports Daily Mirror.
The Ministry said under the authority granted by Sports Law No. 25 of 1973, the Minister has appointed the interim committee, the newspaper reported.
The interim committee is tasked with conducting a formal investigation into the alleged irregularities of the SLC board and submitting a comprehensive report on legal principles, the report said.
Furthermore, the committee is empowered to propose relevant recommendations and develop procedures to prevent the recurrence of corruption, misconduct and irregularities within the Sri Lanka Cricket Board.
Sri Lanka have lost five out of their seven matches in the round-robin league stage and are out of the semifinal race.
The 1996 champions will be hoping to end their campaign in top eight in order to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan.
