Soon after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, President Biden said that the Israelis shouldn’t give in to their “rage.” Israel was, and is, too smart to give in to rage, and it hasn’t. It has engaged in a massive self-defense operation and the world — including Biden — doesn’t like it.

You see, the world is content to say solemn words over Jewish corpses but it really doesn’t like the idea of Jews defending themselves by making war on those who would kill them. (READ MORE from Jed Babbin: Killing Hamas)

Biden is trying to pressure the Israeli government into “humanitarian pauses” in their scouring of the Gaza Strip for Hamas barbarians, purportedly to let “humanitarian supplies” such as food, water, and fuel into Gaza. Never mind that Hamas is seizing those shipments for its own use. The Israeli government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected Biden’s calls for pausing the conflict which could only benefit Hamas.

The Democrats, as others have written, are split between supporters of Israel and Hamas. It’s their choice to side with good or evil.

According to the Anti-Defamation League, anti-Semitic incidents have increased in the United States by almost 400 percent since the October 7 attacks on Israel. Such incidents are rampant in American cities and on college campuses. In Washington last weekend, pro-Hamas demonstrators blocked streets and tried to climb the fence around the White House.

Naturally, Biden chose this week to announce the “first-ever U.S. National Strategy to Counter Islamophobia in the United States.”  Biden is — like the rest of the Democratic Party — ignoring the anti-Semitism that has already resulted in violence against Jews here and in many other nations.

Jews who defend themselves are an anomaly, contrary to the historic Jewish stereotype of pacifism and liberalism. Jews have been known for quiet acquiescence in their fate. There have been exceptions such as the Maccabees who were in armed revolt against the Seleucid Empire in 200 B.C.

During the Spanish Inquisition some Jews pretended to convert to Catholicism but still practiced their own religion covertly. Many went to the Nazi death camps with little or no resistance because they were unarmed and unprepared to resist violently. In the 1943 Warsaw Ghetto uprising they did mount a failed resistance.

But that era spawned a resurgence of the anomalous Jew, one who is ready and willing to fight. There were Jewish soldiers and pilots from the U.S., veterans of World War Two, who went to Canada and from there to Israel to fly and fight for Israel in its 1948 War of Independence.

I remember one point in the early 1950s when there was some sort of resurgence in antisemitism in New York City. My mother was terrified. My dad, who was a World War Two mud Marine, said nothing but bought a shotgun and a pile of buckshot ammo.

Jews who are willing and able to take arms to defend themselves have never been supported by the public majority of any nation. Between Israel’s founding and its victory in the 1973 Arab-Israeli war, Israel was the scrappy underdog. As the late Israeli prime minister Golda Meir said, Israel always had a secret weapon: it had no alternative to victory. (READ MORE from Jed Babbin: Wars Raise Two More Critical Issues)

Then, suddenly, after 1973 Israel became the unbeatable — and unbearable — winner. Thanks to Muslim disinformation, Israel became an oppressor of the Palestinians. And thanks to the Arab nations, the Palestinians became their political tool against Israel. The cry of “Palestine shall be free from the river to the sea” is chanted mindlessly on college campuses. What it means is that Israel and its Jews will be eradicated by the Palestinians and their Arab and Iranian supporters.

Pro-Palestinian demonstrations are happening worldwide. The demonstrators implicitly excuse the Nazi-like barbarity of Hamas. They carry the Palestinian flag — a red triangle across the staff with black, white, and green stripes — with them. (Some can’t even get that right. In a massive demonstration in the city of Kerala, India the demonstrators carried the Italian flag — with green, white and red stripes — instead of the Palestinian flag. It looked like a Columbus Day parade in New York City.)

Israel has to choose between being dead and pitied and being alive with a bad reputation.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and his spokesmen have said that their goal is to eliminate Hamas. Their operations in the Gaza Strip, it must be emphasized again and again, are doing everything possible to minimize civilian casualties. Nevertheless, Hamas’s useful idiots in Europe and the U.S. are accusing Israel of genocide in Gaza.

That’s a calumny that will be endlessly repeated, as will the Hamas-generated figures of civilian casualties. The numbers are false, as is everything else coming out of Hamas and its supporters including Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar and the rest of that bunch of idiots.

Secretary of State Tony Blinken spent Saturday meeting with leaders of Jordan and other Arab states pushing for a pause in Israel’s war against Hamas.

Biden has spoken out in favor of a two-state solution to the Palestinians’ problems with Israel. That is a denial of the obvious, that there can be no peaceful solution until the Palestinians are forced to accept the existence of Israel.

Former president Obama drew an equation of moral equivalence in a speech between the Hamas attacks and Israel’s “occupation.” Obama is comprehensively wrong. Israel ended its occupation of Gaza in 2005 and that didn’t prevent the October 7 attacks. There is no moral equivalence between Israel and the Palestinian-Hamas barbarians.

Israel’s war against Hamas — which Hamas started, as our politicians seem to forget — was begun by Hamas’s October 7 attacks on Israel. That war may yet spread to Lebanon where Hizb’allah forces continue to shell Israel but haven’t yet launched their long-range missiles against Israeli cities. Hizb’allah and Hamas, like their Iranian masters, want to eradicate Israel.

Another statement attributed to Golda Meir is that Israel has to choose between being dead and pitied and being alive with a bad reputation. Whomever said that, it’s comprehensively correct.

Netanyahu has said that the war on Hamas in Gaza could be paused if Hamas released its hostages, the men, women, and children captured in the October onslaught. Biden ignores the hostages — some of whom are Americans — in demanding a pause in Israeli action. (READ MORE: Protestant Churches Split on Israel-Hamas War)

Biden should stop his efforts to force Israel into some pause or cease-fire but there are too many among his Democrats who support Hamas for him to stop demanding a pause. The Democrats, as others have written, are split between supporters of Israel and Hamas. It’s their choice to side with good or evil. The loudest voices among the Dems have chosen to side with evil.
