Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) continues to be dogged by the allegations that he wears lifts in his boots to appear taller in public. John Oliver added his voice to the matter on Sunday for his show "Last Week Tonight."
According to the host, the short-lived presidential candidate had the worst comeback he could possibly come up with.
"I know Donald Trump and a lot of his people have been focusing on things like footwear. I'll tell ya this: if Donald Trump can summon the balls to show up to show up to the debate, I'll wear a boot on my head. This is the time for substance," said DeSantis, who is known for being short with reporters.
"What!?" Oliver cut in to exclaim. "Ok, first, you can't claim it was a time for substance just after promising to wear a boot on your head, but second, you're so bad at this. Even if you weren't running against one of the world's greatest bullies, it looks so pathetic that you thought that was a good comeback. Never before has a politician had such 'kid with the rolling backpack wearing a tie to class' energy."
Oliver went on to do a full report on the dangerous life women now lead in states that are banning abortion. He detailed the fact that 84 percent of lawmakers who made the abortion decision are men. He also highlighted one Idaho lawmaker who confessed he didn't really understand what he was doing when he voted for the ban in that state.
There are two central states that will depend on voter participation on Tuesday to protect such care: Ohio and Virginia. In Ohio, there is a ballot measure that would protect the right in the state's Constitution. In Virginia, the state Assembly and Governor are Republicans, and with a GOP state Senate, there will be no barrier to passing anti-abortion laws.
