A HANDY homeowner knew just the DIY trick to make his house look like it got a decorative upgrade for 20 bucks.
In just a few minutes, he was able to transform his space – but some people were quick to point out potential issues with the tip.
“Here’s a $20 dollar home improvement you can do in less than three minutes, check it out,” said one-half of (@shopboyzs).
The self-professed funny guy was looking to replace his outdated gold door knobs and rusty door hinges.
The DIYer drilled until the old knob came off of the bathroom door.
He then got to work dismantling the screws around the hinges on the same door.
It was now out with the old and in with the new for an elegant and elevated look.
And he was able to do it for just $20 total.
He replaced the rusted hinges with a set of black colored hinges and used Defiant’s aged bronzed hall and closet passage door knobs that sold for $12.97 at Home Depot.
Described as being easily installable, the knobs had almost 1,000 4.7 star reviews.
“Replaced all the bedroom doors in my home. They are the perfect accent for the doors and work great,” wrote one satisfied customer.
“Great bargain for an easy upgrade,” said another home project doer.
The TikToker proudly showed off his final look that gave a much more rustic chic and modern appearance to the door.
Still, not everyone thought the affordable door decor would work for them.
“That would take my husband three business years,” joked one follower.
“$20 when you have 15 doors,” another viewer sarcastically quipped regarding the no doubt much higher cost she would incur.
Yet another follower knew this would not work for her older home.
“If you have a newer house, sure you’re correct. But my 1962 time capsule makes every easy job a million times more difficult,” she said.
“Not when my doors are from 1910,” said another follower who could relate to the infeasibility of doing this in her space.
He did find some fans who were in awe over the affordable home transformation.
“I just did this. The black hardware is a good look,” said one impressed follower.
“Really does look so much better,” another follower agreed.
“And here I was taking all the hinges off at the same time, and struggling to hold the door up to get new ones on! This is now a standard practice!” exclaimed one grateful viewer.
“Lol yes one at a time,” the TikToker replied.
“Amazing,” was all another follower had to say about the upgrade.
