Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim believes there is no chance that rumoured Tottenham target Geny Catamo will be sold while he is still at the helm.
Catamo, who impressed on loan at Maritimo last season, has caught the eye on his return to Sporting with his ball-carrying ability and his crossing.
The winger’s displays at the start of this season have allegedly caught the attention of several Premier League sides, including Tottenham, with Football Transfers claiming a couple of days ago that the Lilywhites are monitoring the player’s development closely.
The publication stated that the 22-year-old was also on the radars of Arsenal and Aston Villa, adding that he could leave the Jose Alvalade Stadium as early as January.
However, Amorim has now poured cold water on those suggestions, claiming that the Mozambique international, who is contracted to the club until 2025 (Transfermakrt), is not leaving Lisbon anytime soon.
The Portuguese coach told O Jogo: “I am very comfortable regarding Geny’s situation. Because, while I’m Sporting’s boss, there won’t be a sale. And this is the dream of every manager.
“In the future, he will renew his contract. So Geny isn’t a problem for me. It’s a problem for the board but I’m calm about it (his future).”
Spurs Web Opinion
We know that Sporting can be notoriously difficult to negotiate with as Tottenham found out last year during the Pedro Porro deal. So, I am not sure Levy and the Spurs hierarchy will want to get involved in the race for Catamo if the Portuguese giants insist he is not for sale.
