Following the non-compliance with the”Stop-Work” order issued earlier to the developer of an ongoing multi-floor residential building on Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Ikoyi, the Lagos State Government has sealed the site of the project ordering workers to vacate the building immediately.
The Honourable Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Hon. Yacoob Ekundayo Alebiosu, alongside his counterpart in the Ministry of Physical Planning & Urban Development (MPP&UD), Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, gave the directive recently, noting that the construction contravened waterfront regulations and physical planning laws of the State.
Alebiosu further disclosed that the construction has no State Government approval for reclamation and extension works, adding that the illegal development was discovered while carrying out the oversight responsibility of the Ministry through the monitoring and enforcement of the rules and regulations guiding the usage of the state waterfront.
While admitting that dredging and reclamation works can be done in the State, he emphasised that it must be done with control and caution in order not to disturb the ecosystem and endanger the lives and property of the people.
He appreciated the cooperation of his colleague in the MPP&UD who had always ensured that all relevant permits and approvals were secured from relevant MDAs before giving his approval to building plans.
In his remark, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide said his Ministry will be coming down heavily on all illegal developments in the State, warning recalcitrant developers in the habit of violating building plan laws to desist henceforth or face the wrath of the law.
He also stated that his staff would be out soon to serve Notices of Contravention and anyone found wanting would be prosecuted accordingly.
