The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), has matriculated 79 students admitted into the Schools of Orthopaedic Cast Technology and Anaesthetic Technology.
Speaking at the matriculation ceremony held recently at the school premises, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Lagos State, Prof. Akin Abayomi, stated that the institution which has a history of providing the best medical education and training for health professionals is constantly expanding her frontiers of academics to improve the medical profession in the country.
According to him, as a potential practitioner in Orthopaedic Cast and Anaesthetic Technology, your career path is dignified which bestows upon you the responsibility of modesty.
While congratulating the matriculants, the Commissioner, who was represented by the Director of Medical, Administration and Training, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Shokunbi, encouraged them to be good ambassadors of the institution.
In his opening remarks, the Chief Medical Director of the Institution, Prof. Adetokunbo. O. Fabamwo assured the new students of quality education, adding that the school will open them to available opportunities that will further enhance their career.
Prof. Fabamwo explained that the vision of the hospital management to train Anaesthetic and Orthopaedic Cast Technicians is to improve surgical practices in the country.
While delivering a keynote address, the Head of Orthopaedics & Trauma Department, LASUTH, Prof. Oladipo Adewole stated that the students must work as a team to excel in their field.
“The spirit of teamwork emphasises that ‘Together, each can achieve more’. As you embark on this academic journey, achieving your goals will require you to be collaborative, fostering creative and innovative ideas”, he said.
Encouraging the students to create an impact in the field, Prof. Oladipo assured them of a rich learning experience in the institution, stating that the school boasts competent and dedicated lecturers.
In his remarks, the Director of Clinical Services and Training, Prof. Adebowale Adekoya applauded the State Government for the constant support towards breaking the barriers of knowledge.
He equally appreciated the State Ministry of Health, the Chief Medical Director, The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for their roles in making the teaching hospital obtain the required approval.
