Gretchen Whitmer Will Soon Sign Bill to Overturn Ban on Partial-Birth Abortions
A suite of pro-abortion bills will soon be on their way to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer following yesterday’s House votes to enact the radical promises established by the passage of Prop 3.
The measures remove the partial birth abortion ban, eliminate health and safety standards for abortion facilities required for any other medical facility, and allow abortion facilities to conceal information from women about risks and complications. The bills have yet to receive Senate approval, which could come as soon as next week.
A bill to remove the 24-hour waiting period for an abortion did not advance yesterday, following a Detroit lawmaker’s refusal to vote along party lines. According to Democrat Rep. Laurie Pohutsky, the bill is not needed to strike down the waiting period because it can be removed through a lawsuit on the policy violating Prop 3.

“The horrendous act of partial-birth abortion has been sanctioned by Michigan Democrats this week. One year after Prop 3’s passage, Michigan Democrats are ushering through legislation to fulfill their goal of abortion on demand and complete deregulation of the abortion industry, including inspections to ensure the cleanliness and safety of abortion clinics. Prop 3 established this framework that will cost lives and put women at risk by allowing abortion clinics to be unlicensed and abortions and complications to go unreported.
“What is happening right now in Michigan could be a clear indicator of things to come in Ohio. Next week, Ohioans will vote on enshrining abortion into their constitution. If passed this could be their anti-life future. Through legislation or litigation, every single protection that exists for girls, women, parents and babies in the womb will be taken off the books in Ohio.”
Partial-birth abortion was recently described in an Associated Press article: “A D&X procedure involved dilating the woman’s cervix, then pulling the fetus through the cervix, feet-first to the neck. The head was then punctured and the skull emptied and compressed to allow the fetus to fit through the dilated cervix.”
Ohio is the only state with an abortion constitutional amendment on the ballot this year, as voters consider a measure that would allow elective abortions until birth, eliminate parental rights, and remove health and safety protections for women. Election Day is Nov. 7.
