The Lagos State Government has sealed eight commercial lockup shops on Dosunmu Street, Lagos Island, warehousing firecrackers in very unsafe conditions.
A statement signed by the Commissioner for Special Duties & Intergovernmental Relations, Gbenga Oyerinde said the shops were sealed to protect the lives and properties of residents in the area from fire incidents and explosions.
He reiterated Mr Governor’s commitment to the protection of the lives and properties of Lagosians, noting that the safety of all residents in Lagos State is a top priority to the State Government.
The Commissioner stated that the Lagos State Safety Commission, being one of the agencies under the Ministry, will continue to live up to its responsibilities by identifying unsafe conditions and mitigating them.
Oyerinde emphasised that anyone or marketplaces found flagrantly violating safety rules will face the full weight of the Law.
